Update: October 27, 2010: http://antibullshitman.blogspot.com/2010/10/illegitimacy-of-godstate-analogy....

Seeing as how so many people have tried to blend Gov't/God since the shooting of this video a year back.

  • Buddhism is an atheistic religion.

  • It's nonsense too.

  • (cont)

that early progamming. but you know this..

the problem certainly is 'organised' religion. spirituality is entirely seperate and comes is a myriad of forms, many of which are completely harmless

  • Spirituality breeds organized spirituality, regardless of how many forms it can come in. The two are tied at the spiritual hip.

You're basically making the argument that the catalyst factor is a non-factor. Might wanna re-think that.

Remember, the majority of people are theists and here I'm discussing the overall result of God belief.

  • Nice man.

    Totally agree.

  • Well, we agree on that anyway.

  • I wonder if we took a bunch of kids without knowledge of religion and kept them on an island, would they develop something like a god belief either themselves or subsequent generations. Or would we see a behaviour that causes god belief manifiest in a different way... And if such a cause were found to have an identified gene that could be switched on or off would or should we do that. But whether its a symptom or a cause; with some diseases you need to treat both with equal urgency side by side

  • sorry, should give context to that first bit.. i think using the term 'organised spirituality' is a bit er, wrong. for want of a better word.. im dying (disclaimer, not actually dying), its the best your gonna get..

  • nope, 'spirituality' is a broad term describing our natural predication to infuse certain aspects of our experiences/existence interaction with the world around us with some kind of phantasmagorical notion. it is entirely personal.

religion is the McDonalds that packages it all up and tells us we want le Big Mac version of phantasma before we even knew we were hungry.. get it?

im not saying the catalyst facfor is a none factor, but that it could exist without the perversion of religion

  • but the suicide bomber isn't doing it for his god alone, he is doing it because he has been trained by a sect ramming damaging dogma into his brain for years.

organised religion gets to 'em young. it offers answers to some existential questions before you even start posing the questions, it hardwires certain things into your brain when it is still like a sponge and by the time they get older and actually have the capacity to think intricately for themselves, most theists wont be able to break
