This may be the most candid and honest interview about addictions so far. I have lots of respect for Cameron for having the courage to be so real about his drug abuse in this interview.
I met Cameron in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. He was homeless in Vancouver's Downtown East Side, and then moved to Fort McMurray, and of course, Cameron's addictions moved with him.
Fort McMurray is experiencing explosive growth and the community seems to be doing its best to catch up to that growth. As in most communities, social services is last to receive needed attention. Cameron says he is going to move back to Vancouver where there is help for his addictions.
About 50 feet to the right of us is a dumpster that Cameron's girlfriend fell asleep in while on drugs. The garbage truck came and took the contents to the dump. His girlfriend was never seen again and is presumed dead. This was a documented tragedy and not something Cameron made up. The couple, while living in a tent, was even featured in a National Geographic photo about the Canadian 'boomtown'.
Cameron wants to stop using drugs, but the drugs that he is addicted to are not easy to kick. He needs help. I hope you watch to the end as his three wishes messed me up.
In this interview Cameron talks about drugs and addictions, lack of solutions, being "dope sick", and even the prison system and his costs to society. This is a very powerful interview that I hope will open the eyes of many.

Equal Money System will enable and prevent people from taking drugs in the first place as a way to escape from a system that is blatantly designed to not support everyone Equally. This is a point that's self created - we're all responsible and thus we all create a way to say to this people: there is a way if we all agree to give to each other what we want for ourselves. Being 'normal' having an actual Life

@elainebmack, you should read Alana's comment and furthermore I'd ask that unless you plan on seriously pursuing the "why" aspect of it professionally that it is likely something you'd never fully get, so why is the why so important? What is important is finding out ways to help as many as we can, since the "why" of it varies and can't be put into vast generalizations. What I can assure you is the solutions are very real. They have just been stigmatized.

@Alana8480, that's a great attitude to have and one I hope will be less rare in the coming decades.

Why start taking drugs in the first place? I'm sorry, but I just don't understand the "why" of taking drugs.

I've seen many video interviews of homeless people and you really have to wonder for every 1 homeless person who admits being a substance abuser (either currently or previously) like this man admits, how many of the homless DON'T admit to being substance abusers?

I can verify his experience overcoming the vulnerabilities experienced HERE, especially the access to 'treatment'. When an addict becomes brave enough to deal with their addiction, that is the MOMENT that assistance is required, any hesitation in providing that has the addict 'spiralling' back into their addiction 'routine', until the next opportunity,.
I WILL say this, once he has got clean he needs to INVESTIGATE himself to REALISE why he started on that road in the first place with WRITING.
