I personally think that Smash is far more gripping than Glee, not to mention all the absolutely wonderful, original pieces. I tried watching Glee but it lost my attention within the first four episodes. Smash has me falling in love.

Yeah me too but the shows cancelled bcuz of poor rating :( idk why but it seems like its being compared to Glee and of cousre the glee fans will be talikng shit about this show for "stealing the plot/Idea" but All I now is it stole my attention <3

I'm not sure if precursor is the term. Smash has more of a "grown-up" target. The material, the original music, the subject matter. With the type of programming being offered, Smash offered a glimmer of hope for intelligent TV. But no intended offense to any age group...I'll be sad to see it go. And I didn't see or read Katherine McPhee's interview-but Variety and Musical TV shows have a strong history. And I'm not sure I'd trust her "knowledge" on the subject.
