Visiting the Swedish railway museum in Gävle in September 2007 I saw this big man on a very little steam engine. Funny. Sorry for the bad picture quality.
To all of you that don't believe it's a real steam engine: I saw him fire it on, it's really real! I don't know anything about the box he is sitting on - maybe its for the water - but its not some kind of battery box or similar. I can also tell you that he was not the most gentle gay at the fare, he didn't like me taking pictures of him...

  • theres many small locos that will pull a man, even 3 1/2" gauge ones!

That loco would pull a few people.

Theres a club near me that do it all the time and charge 10p a ride!!

  • I know, matthewpeter and I were talking about that as well as what the blue "tank" is under the seat.

  • I don't know whats in the box, maybe water... Or just empty.

  • Right! I can promise you, it's a real modell steam loco. I saw him fire it up in the back.

  • Yes! Steam engines! :-)

  • Ha, ha, just steam... Indeed!

  • most likely a water tank, small steam locos like this like a nice cold water supply. The water in the tanks gets hot and the injectors won't "inject" anymore, so you quickly run out of water! Lots of engines for this reason don't actually use the boiler mounted saddle tank.

  • I believe you, I didn't know you worked on these types of things and I didn't know the full dynamics of them, what led me to believe it was electric was the blue box underneath his seat seemed to look like an odd battery or if it was internal combustion it could have been some very strange engine or engine case, and I didn't really examine under his seat as much as I did this time or notice the exhaust smoke. Also, now that I think about it that is a light load, but what is that under his seat?
