I don't mind telling you that I was initially skeptical about the notion that you could catch catfish with soap. Today, however, I am a believer. We baited the trotline with catfish soap (24 hooks), and caught 15 BIG catfish. Catfish soap is cheap, easy to make, isn't messy or smelly, stays on the hook, and best of all, IT WORKS! If you'd like to learn how to make your own catfish soap, this video is for you.

  • is this safe for our lakes? just wondering if we will end up killing our fish and plants in our pond

  • @Geronimo1501st Yes, it's safe.

  • Great video man! I just made my first batch of soap bait and can't wait to try it out! Its a little more crumbly than I wanted, but still goes on and stays on a hook quite well. Think I will add a little more water to the next batch to deal with the crumbling issue when I cut it. Thanks for posting!

  • @dblee32 I hope it worked for you!

  • This is a great video.

But next time instead of having children help him (Lye is very caustic) he should just call his brother Darryl and his other brother Darryl.

    Thanks for the useful info.

  • @wyattroberts you say you cut them in 1" square ive never tryed this but iver herd of it and it sounds like a good idea for yall to put them in a ice cube tray. im more of a carp fisherman than a catfisherman but goodluck man.

  • @wyattroberts Cooking them in the sun with garlic salt toughens them but the key is to use some thread and tie them to the hook, tight, they will stay on for several casts

  • @merismosman - I don't know. Mine was pretty thin -- soupy-like. When it hardened to the consistency of mashed potatoes, I put it in the milk cartons.
