This is a classic Uncle Remus story from Joel Chandler Harris called "The Wonderful Tar Baby Story." Song of the South by Disney.
Please don't be offended by this. It is presented as it was intended to be read and enjoyed. While we should reject racism and the worst of the southern history - we shouldn't fear holding onto classic literature like this.

  • I'm related to Joel Harris! Thanks for posting!

  • @cafethis I'm so honored by your comment! How far back does the relation go?

  • One more Thing about The Wonderful Tar Baby Story it wasn't very wonderful

  • Wow... you are on a roll, today! That's one powerful argument for book-burning, that's for sure. You've enlightened all of us.

  • ... as opposed to a self-loathing, book burning, elitist. Your hate-filled, snide, insulting attacks are so clever - no one has ever thought to debate an issue with slander and personal insults lacking any context or content before. How did you ever think of it?

  • I'm a black male 27yrs old and my parents bought the record and book for me and my sister when we were very young. We loved listening to that record we were very young 6 or younger we had no idea it was racist. I did't see color when I was that age it was'nt untill much later in life that we found out it was a racist book. That book was apart of my childhood. thanx for posting

  • This guy should seriously consider a job in voice over work, the fact that he can bounce back and forth with his characters with such ease is quite impressive.

  • @compcarp Hey, thanks! I like your post very much and am happy to know people care about the story. I'm told by my father, that Joel Chandler Harris was my "great, great, great, great, great uncle."

  • thanks for posting!!! i was assigned to read this and omg call me a klutz but that 2nd paragragh with Uncle Remus I couldnt read/interpret at all..luckily I found your video and I used your voice as I followed along..thanks again!

  • Super reading. The tar baby is a "sticky situation" that cannot be overcome by hitting it.

    :)

  • "Books!!!" LOL, that's classic.

  • Thank you, that was absolutely splendid! I am English and have never visited the USA, so when I tried to read this to my children when they were little, I really struggled: completely unintelligible. Now that I have heard how it should sound, I'll go away and work on it and maybe, by the time grandchildren come along, I might get it right.
