In response to my previous casual video about the Suhr Koko Boost, I've recorded some close-mic settings to give you a more realistic representation of how I use the Koko to create my tone.

Signal chain= Suhr Custom Standard Guitar ~ Koko Boost ~ 1996 Dual Rectifier solo head ~ Mesa 2x12 Recto box ~ SM57 ~ delay in cubase (370ms + 500ms).

Thanks to Suhr for this awesome pedal which has become an integral part of my sound nowadays!

  • If you have a mesa dual rectifier 100 watt head not solo then theres no need for pedals unless you want some weird effect or wah or delay

  • @Xdawg9087 pedal gain is different to amp gain. Not going for the same tones my friend. The solo is 100w btw.

  • Idk maybe its just me, but i feel like boost pedals like this are kinda pointless, I much rather just boot my tone with a maxon OD808 or tube screamer.

I just feel that sounds a lot better then this.

  • @visionsrecording Boost pedals crank up the output from the color with no coloration. ODs add color, change the eq (usually in the lows) and compress, which is cool when you want it. Different tools for different jobs.

  • Very nice tones you have !! is this your main amp? or you have other amps as well?

  • @hopkinWFG This is my main amp. I have some practice amps too. I will probably go with Suhr for amps too at some point.

  • @guitarsbunch347 nice

  • @Xdawg9087 ya, i guess channel 2 vintage wld be ok... i just also swapped out the stock tubes for some jj's... MAJOR IMPROVEMENT! its sounds great without any boosts now!

  • @guitarsbunch347 It dosen't have a week distortion it dose have a dark tone i love it without any boost pedals... i get what your saying but i like it without pedals maybe for the 2nd channel to get some better tones cause i have it on vintage and its a nice fuzz tone but it could be better but i use a gibson flying v through it and it sounds amazing i get nice pinch harmonics....

  • @Xdawg9087 do you own an mesa dual rectifer? because in case you didn't know, almost any pro that uses it uses a OD pedal... like a tubescreamer... cuz the distortion from the rectifier alone is very muddy, dark, and weak, but just boost the guitar's input signal a lil with a OD pedal, and you get that signature high gain tone you are probably looking for with a dual rectifier!

  • @Xdawg9087 I have a triple recto that says "solo head" thats just how they were labeled as two channel amps. Plus the solo feature on newer ones don't boost gain, they switch between two passive attenuators after the preamp resulting in volume change. This pedal boosts gain in front of the preamp. This can increase loudness on clean channels but it's really meant to push an overdriven amp channel into further saturation without changing loudness. This is just one way to do it. I use a Maxon OD9.

  • @Pianoblacks somewhat

  • @Xdawg9087 wut? there's always need for pedal in front of a Mesa Rectifier, you need to tighten the amp up.

I think you meant, there's no need for a pedal unless you want your amp to sound like is hanging off a coat rack

  • @chrisbrooksmusic Well its not like my Mesa Dual Rectifier 50/100 watt and dont have the same channel options but yours is still cool
