  • are you kidding me? you've obviously have not heard this bands collection of music.

i'm not going to discount PG's efforts by talking down his cover. he KNOWS good music when he hears it... so do many others who have covered the magnetic fields.

no one write songs about love like they do. i suggest you pick some more stuff up and have a listen.

i'll have a listen at PG's cover and get back to you.

    thanks for watching! take care!

  • @belovedconsole Have you heard The Airborne Toxic Events cover of this? Upbeat and orchestral, I think it's awesome.

  • @xxxasleep agreed! and smiths/morrissey too

  • Oh, GOD! Peter Gabriel's cover of this song is just a pompous, hackneyed, laughable affair. It's such a cliche—and while the covers project was "interesting" in a cursory way due to the indie bands and good songs he chose to cover, there was really nothing redeemable about the kind of cheesy orchestration he cakes on the songs (nutritionless saccharine syrup). The only thing I agree with is that yes, he tries VERY hard. The song is not supposed to be ENTIRELY uplifting— more ambivalent.

  • I like Peter Gabriel, but his version is too slow. The best versions are the original by Magnetic Fields (this version here I don't like), and if you want the best, go to Nataly Dawn. It's a little pretentious, but beautifully recorded, and her interpretation is playful yet deep, and the harmonies are different. She and the original really capture it. Gabriel is too slow and old and almost depressed. (I still like him, though, like Leonard Cohen)...

  • its madness,,how prolific can you fucking get.

  • This song is so good it deserved a top class treatment. Peter Gabriel's.

  • mi sister sung it!!! on her wedding!!!!
