There are are a small handful of artists/songwriters who I consider to be true geniuses - and Laura was one. One of the joys of YouTube is being able to capture and preserve stuff like this. Thanks, much.

Thanks for posting. Laura Nyro was, and is, an awesome talent. This early song - "And When I Die" - was terribly prophetic: she died much too young.

@exile103 Laura in fact did die soon after this concert in her 40's of ovarian cancer, I went to Jr High school with her .RIP

I'm never going to listen to the Blood, Sweat and Tears version of the song again, now that I've heard Laura's own version(and it's especially poignant to hear this version, since she was probably dying when she played this gig). This has soul and truth...the BST version just has David Clayton Thomas strutting around and howling like a macho oaf.

Nioc,
"I bought Eli and the Thirteenth Confession earning the derision of my friends."
I could offer an explanation as to why Laura does not connect with many people, easy to be brief .
Most people are fools.

I love Miss Nyro's work so very much. I've had 'Eli...' for some time now, & in the past year or two collected nearly all her other released recordings. Such a tremendous talent as songwriter, musician *& singer. She was wonderfully expressive, soulful. I have to say, though, that I feel 49 is not "far too Young". She lived a very full & creative life while she was here. Had she died at 29, that would've been far too young. It wasn't too long ago that 49 was considered what 60-something is now.

Why was she so underrated? She was just amazing. I bought Eli and the Thirteenth Confession earning the derision of my friends. But it gave me such pleasure and for so long.... I am sad that she died so young...

She made it! She's in the Hall! You made it Baby! NOW that place has some class. Hooray for her and all of us who love her!!! :-)

What a soul sister. The hair color is surprising.

Congratulations to Laura for being selected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.
Thank-you for this -- and your dream has come true! I love this version of the song. I saw her many times --- how lucky I was! Was this at The Bottom Line?

@hehebexx No, this was not at The Bottom Line. This was an outdoor venue: Point State Park in Pittsburgh, Pa., in June of 1994. And yes, our dreams have finally been fulfilled with Laura's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Sweet, huh?

I'm loving all these live posts from this concert-how special they are? Did you take them yourself? Thanks.

I did, 60schild. There is very little video footage of Laura. It makes me happy to share these clips with other Nyro fans.

@denknee I met Laura back @1970. She was the most stage-frightened person I ever knew. More soul than she could control. Even in this presentation, she was epic in her talent and love. THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this.
