I took this footage on a Friday morning during my spring holidays in 2008. The garbage is done by about 7:30am in Burwood, so it was lucky I got there when I did to video this brand new truck finishing off a couple of last streets. I captured plenty of footage of this machine, however the early morning sun ruined a lot of the other clips, so I only ended up putting this footage on from a large apartment. A big thanks goes to the driver, please rate and comment, and be sure to check out the video of the recycling truck...

  • Nice truck. I like the colors on it. Are you going to take footage of yourself on your new job?

  • @TheBrodra Yes for sure, got a couple of mates on here who'll help with that too :)

  • You know how that the MJ GenV Rotagrab arm is a lot lighter and therfore faster than previous rotagrab arms. Would it be made out of Aluminium because it isn't powder coated like the older rotagrabs? But I assume that the previous rotagrabs were made out of a powder coated steel by the look of them.

  • Mmm... I'm not totally sure to be honest. I thought they would've used some kind of steel again or some alloy... dunno about aluminium, they'd need something stronger wouldn't they?

  • Very new looking truck, the arm practically looks stainless steel or something LOL! Also the cab makes it obvious...What year would you saw this truck is? 5 stars!

  • Would definitely be an 08 model.

  • @MitchellM15 Yeah Aluminium isn't strong enough as you said. It has to be a composite alloy (Blend of different metals). So it must have aluminium in it and probably titaneum. Because I am just wondering because the new Rotagrab is left unpainted, however it would still be treated for weather. But the new alloy must allow it to not be powder coated. When you mix Aluminium with another metal like titaneum it dramatically increases in strength.

  • Nice truck, but wonder if there was anything stuck in the first bin. I reckon the drivers new at the job because hes very slow with the claw and driving

  • Love the sound of this one. Great find !

  • yea most trucks here have a solid grabber, some have the double jointed grabbers that kinda fold up when stowed away, all the starr trucks have the folding grabbers, yea the rollers would be no help on square bins but here we have almost all round carts so it help grab them

  • Yeah, I was thinking like an alloy, but I'm not sure either. But with the arm not painted or powder coated it just seems like it would be an aluminium alloy because it doesn't rust. But yeah, they would need something stronger than just aluminium.

  • The grabbers in Australia open and close a different way the the American grabbers. In general the Australian grabbers are more complex. But the MacDonald Johnston grabbers are the more complex ones and mould and wrap around the bin where as the Superior Pak and Compaction Systems grabbers are more like the American grabbers, but a still a lot different. But rollers I just can't see the how much the would help over here.
