@josephpatrick12 ... (continued) not only from the gambling, but the concerts, and from the Rickenbacker Causeway toll. I'm not Cuban myself, but Cuba has a huge cultural signifigance in South Florida, and this was the first structure created by a famous Cuban architect. It in many ways, defys construction norms. Look, I'm a hard-core Republican... I'm as fiscally conservative as the next guy, but the longer we let it sit, the more expensive it will get, or it will be lost forever.
@josephpatrick12 The "years ago" you talk about is nearly 50 years ago (maybe more)? The stadium is largely still in good shape. I don't know what the metal looks like under the concrete, but I was out there about 2-3 weeks ago, and it still looked solid, if not neglected. If they're willing to restore the stadium, and build a multi-level garage on the already exisitng parking lot, they can have gambling, and concerts. This would bring in significant income...
@Todd82TA "there's nothing else like this.... in the United States"
and there's probably a good reason for that: this is Miami, where boondogles like this have been
taking place for years.... just because some contractors ripped off the City years ago to build an ill-conceived stadium for water events (maybe we should have a stadium for golf, too) doesn't mean people should redo the same nonsense
Yeah, I totally agree. Of course, we're in a budget crunch time... but this stadium should have been fixed up long before it's gotten to this point. It's also an architectural design masterpiece, and very much embodies the culture of Miami.
