Buddha was a man like you & me, but then he got enlightened and had the wisdom to see through the truth of the universe, very unlike you& me. He didn't need to worship any gods or things whom he surpasses, but still respects. Buddhism focuses on inner reflction, contrast to god worshippers who only look outward for being "rescued" ( some bad case in history is that they started wars & asked for being forgiven at the same time! nonsense!)
