Videos and photos from my bus rides to Engstlenalp from Innertkirchen in Gental (Gen valley) in Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.
Gental is alluvial plain to the northwest of Gadmertal, terminating at Engstlenalp in central alps. This valley has a very low density of population in comparison to Swiss average. This makes it very natural place with cows and waterfalls. South-east side of this valley is steeper making waterfalls higher.
Tectonic forses of alpine compression and upwelling created here huge faults and cracks that deepen into the mountain. Ground water absorbed from rains and snow penetrate until fault's and crack's plains. Than on this plains water stream down and outside creating waterfalls that begin at middle of the valley walls. Biggest waterfall of this type is Sturzbachfall near Schwarzental in Gental. It was very amazing for me to see the theory in live.
I rode here 2 times to Engstlenalp. There is small lake Engstlensee (1850m), and few hiking options; along the lake, to Engelberg (base of Mt. Titlis) via Jochpass, back in Gental or on side walls, and to Melchsee area.
