  • RING LAUNCHER DEMON MAGIC

  • When I teach inductance in my ham radio classes, I have one other example that works well. I have a plastic PVC pipe, a copper pipe and a large magnet.

Demonstrate that the plastic, is obviously not magnetic. Then do the same to the copper pipe.

Drop the magnet down the plastic pipe, it freefalls.

Do the same with the copper pipe, and the inductance makes the magnet fall slowly...... almost like it's weightless.

neat demo. I want to make one of these though!

  • Cave Johnson here, let's do some science.

  • No Hardhat? I have been hit in the head by one of these and it is not fun.

I have been building devices like this for years. The schematic is on my blog at blogspot under bobdavis321 and have many videos using up to 2 KV for 35 feet of flight.

  • nice catch!

  • i love the geek group im almost 13 and i haven't seen any thing with the geek group on it but i do at least have a way to get online and want to know more of what the geek group does before i join and one i join i want to do something so what does the geek group do most of the time and how old do you have to be and in Minnesota is the a chapter the geek group please respond i will most likely be posting this on a few geek group vids but i dont want to spam it thank you

  • can you show or make a diagram of the launcher or make a vid with the ring launcher and show all of the parts used and the connections and maybe have a pdf, and showing the connections. and where does the the other end of the coil go?

  • I am sooooo making myself a ring launcher, i have a beefy ass 24volt coil relay that can handle more than enough current, what kinda voltages is the coil getting run through it, i have a big ass 36000 uF 75 volt cap which can store the coil voltage the power supply is easy enough for me

  • Bad idea with flouresent bulbs above you!

  • I dispise people who use the term 'psudo science' when they discover something new that they dont understand.

  • nice catch P

  • this was how our lecturer demonstrated inductors and em fields to us, except ours had an alu cylinder sitting on a dowel above the coil, and was mains powered.

this also added a bit of luck, as depending on when in the mains phase you energised the coil, the cylinder might just lift up a bit, or it might go through the cieling tiles.

    good times.
