i saw something on National Geographic about Lukla. On a plateau, no roads in it or up to it. This is the only way in or out. It's named for Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who first climbed to the top of Mt. Everest. Also, no pilot can fly here without a certified instructor for this airport. Nepal is very strict about it from what the airport manager said.

@Cirris well,that is true but,if u apply the procedures correct 4 engine failure ,u can come back 4 landing w/single engine and,of course it depends weight and,air density !

@solomonpilot767 I'd say engine failure at any takeoff or landing is a serious problem. You're just as likely to die tumbling in an Iowa cornfield in a jetliner as you are hitting the side of a cliff.
