When you think about it, there are a lot of important themes in this. Never trust strangers, no matter how big an idol they are. In some situations, there are two sides to every story. Everyones idol, Nightshade, appears to be the bad guy, but actually he's being forced to do these by a bigger bad guy (symbolically, the music companies) and everyones all like I AM DISAPPOINT. In theory - don't trust strangers and fight for what you believe in so long as it hurts nobody on the way.

@meetredmeat Basically they were sick because a part of their souls had been taken. The missing shadows were symbolic of that.
