@larryssmith2 I spoke to soon on my first post, the gun play is horrible, and I stopped playing a few weeks after getting this game, my iron clads would go hours without firing a shot! perhaps my crew was sleeping??...I agree Very lame waste of time.
@TEHGROUND steam and sail era was from the 1850s-1890s, The US civil war naval battles were all steam and sail, (except iron clads, which had no sails). the US did not stop designing ships with sails until at 1892. and the last steam and sail ships served until about 1902. US ships before 1884 were wood, after that steel . The British had sail and steam in the 1820s, and standard by the early 1840s. they quit sails in the early 1880s.
Ridiculously short gun ranges even for that era. A 15" Dahlgren armed monitor cannot hit something firing across the length of their own bow. In fact they'll move around like a lame duck not even firing because the "chance to hit" is below 25%. No ammunition types (grape shot, etc.). Dubious damage model: can't clear out the crew from those exposed decks. Totally unrealistic and boring. Very lame waste of time.

I love this game mainly because it has steam ships and you can watch the screws move, not many sea games have steamers.
