Having a colleague whose niece accesses this service, I simply want to question the potential decision to shut it down. We need this type of care for our challenged and fragile citizens.

The respite home is vital to these families who are devoted to their children and their well-being. The California Legistature does it again with stupidity !!! I bet the dollar amount saved with this cut-back could easily be cut from less essestial areas, like perks the Legislatures receive? But then, we are talking about the same group that took the water away from the essential ag. business in the Central Valley.

I am simply horrified at it all.

SAVE THE LANTERMAN ACT! Assembly Member Jared Huffman led a courageous 11th hour charge to correct the 90hr/qtr respite cap. DDS was instructed to trim $334 million (2%) from its budget; their decision to reduce respite to 90hrs/qtr has resulted in a disproportionate reduction in the respite benefit -- far greater than 2%. Assembly Bill 1260 would have corrected this discrepancy -- and it was a cost neutral bill! SHAME ON THE CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE FOR NOT PASSING THIS IMPORTANT LEGISLATION!

As the noose continues to tighten around the Lanterman Act and it's promise to let disabled Californians live normal lives of their choosing, getting people's stories out is essential.

Everyone needs to see the atrocities being done to save a rediculously small amount of money and the cost that it is having on a community that has nothing left to give up.

This is so wrong! California should be providing help to families who choose to care for their disabled loved ones at home, not pulling the rug out from underneath them

There are so many families in California who need the help. Cutting respite to 90 hours will restrict their ability to keep their loved ones at home. It is terrible that the state is cutting services from the ones who need them the most.

I am one of those parents. This will be devastating to my family. If you don't have a child with special needs, you don't understand what it takes to care for them. Some of our "kids" are in their 40's or 60's...we've cared for them at home for a long time. Having a few days a month to refresh is vital to our health, and staying at home with loving family is the best situation for our kids, but we need help to do this. Is it really too much to ask?

I'm embarrased to be a member of this state which has decided to turn its back on the most needy. These programs need to be off limits from politicians who fail to manage their fiscal responsibilities.
