http://www.pbs.org/pov/disturbingtheuniverse/ The national mood of political unrest and protest filtered into the United States prison system. And on September 9, 1971, prisoners at New York's Attica Correctional Facility seized control of the prison. The prisoners took hostages and demanded better living conditions. William Kunstler was called in to negotiate on behalf of the prisoners. After three days of negotiations, armed troops amassed outside the prison gates. What happened next was one of the bloodiest encounters between Americans since the Civil War. POV's William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe premieres on most local PBS stations Tuesday, June 22 at 10 PM. It will also be available in its entirety online from June 23, 2010 to September 21, 2010. Be sure to log on for our live filmmaker chat directly after the east coast broadcast at 11:30 PM ET at http://www.pbs.org/pov/disturbingtheuniverse/ask_the_filmmaker.php
