Life-long Howard Township resident Glenn Thompson became the Republican nominee for the 5th Congressional District on April 22, 2008, defeating eight other candidates.
Thompson, 49, has worked as a Susquehanna Health Rehab Services Manager for 26 years. He has served as the Centre County Republican Chairman and on the Republican State Committee for 6 years, the Bald Eagle Area School Board for 6 years, and was elected in 2004 in the 5th Congressional District as a member of the Republican National Convention delegation. He is a past member of the regional Central Pennsylvania Workforce Investment Board and is the current vice-chair of the Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor. Thompson is a 2006 graduate of Leadership Centre County and has served nearly 30 years as a Scoutmaster. He is the current President of the Juniata Valley Boy Scout Council.
My life has been dedicated to public service, not for personal gain or ambition, but rather to serve those in need. My elected and appointed public service has always been as a volunteer even though it may have meant personal sacrifice. I am not and will not be a career politician, but rather I view serving as your Congressman as a calling to serve the needs of all residents in this district. I believe that reform is needed to return our government to that which the founders had designed and intended. As a citizen legislator, I promise to advocate term-limits, assuring that the occupant of this seat remains well-grounded in the community and the lives of those served. I do not need a new job, or a career, I have had a wonderful career and see an opportunity to help continue the 5th District tradition of community serving legislators.
I am confident I have more personal and professional experience than any other candidate who has entered this race. I am committed to applying this experience to supporting our troops, assuring tax cuts and a strong economy, reducing the size and cost of government, aiding older adults, advocating for elder health care, seeking a thorough energy policy, respecting the rights of the unborn, and serving the citizens of our district.
Thompson's desire to serve is evident in his body of work. A 25- year firefighter, an EMT, and Scout Master, Thompson is what the district needs. A faithful husband of 27 years, his wife Penny and grown sons Parker, Logan, and Kale are a great source of pride for Glenn. As a 26-year Therapist / Rehab Services manager in Lycoming County, Glenn has touched the lives of over 10,000 people facing life altering or debilitating problems.

Even though I'm not from PA, Thompson seems like an extremely solid candidate. Definitely someone I would trust to represent me.
