  • Logging in from Wellington, New Zealand .In 1957, the girls released this their first hit single, "Mr. Lee," an uptempo song in which the narrator proclaims her devotion to her crush - her school teacher. Released in June 1957, "Mr Lee" went to the top of the R& B charts and into the pop charts, where it topped out at #6. The group, which originally formed in Spanish Harlem, New York, in 1955, was first known as "The Harlem Queens". Great post! Thanks for the memories down here, down under!

  • @rorigiles .it's my pleasure.& thank you,,

  • Mr. Lee was my French teacher at Oakland High School and the class used to sing this song to him in French--un, deux, trois. It scans. Too bad this group was a one hit wonder. The group included Jannie and Emma Pought, Reather Dixon, Lara Webb, and Helen Gather.

  • @rogerrrubin .very cool, thank you,

  • This was played during the 2010 World Series Game 5 in Texas when the Rangers starting pitcher Cliff Lee struck out 3 batters in a row. It was a very clever moment.

  • @blakhartatak She's Beautiful =)

  • Love It!

  • @Panbaccha Wow-totally cool, mellow, and far out!

  • @rogerrrubin .... These girls, the Bobbettes, were actually in my class at P.S. 109 and cut this song for our class teacher Mr. Lee, who incidentally looked exactly like the old tv version of Clark Kent of Superman, but was in reality a stiff unbending conservative, who one day while playing the 45 rpm record for us, broke down in tears at his desk. It took a song to break a conservative and make him, if only for a moment, human.

  • @CrudeDude 1963----me too, blue.
