At that time, men were very formal and wore suits and ties and had short neat haircuts. But the younger generation wanted to do their own thing and rebel against their parents/bosses/teachers. So as part of their rebellion, they let their hair grow long and didn't shave.

well you have banks still running cobol, you have autocad using lisp, a train shedule software company i worked for develop in lisp, i'm sure there's still a comercial basic app running somewhere on this world :)

Fortran is very popular among phycisists... too much for may taste.. I prefer C or Objective C.
