A continuation of our series on getting started with bees. Part 6 shows the hives we started in the earlier videos one month later. You'll learn the basics of doing a hive inspection, use of a smoker, good examples of developing brood, what the queen looks like, and what to expect at this stage in your hives.

  • do you know any good online websites to get stuff like the smoker and hives and stuff like that?

  • @grantandfeego Check Brushy Mountain. A little higher than some of the others but pretty good.

  • interesting video, but you should really fire the cameraman, i can't watch the whole thing, it gives me a headache with all the bouncing arounding and everything out of focus

  • @zyxwvutsrqponml12345 You see the "cameraman" quit after this video. All the big dollars we are making by putting these videos out you know, he wanted a raise and we just couldn't afford it..... Seriously guy, it's FREE. If you don't want to watch this free video we made with our own time and money then don't. If you want Spielberg effects, go PAY for the movies. Always one complainer in every couple hundred.

  • @zyxwvutsrqponml12345 Yes, I'll "fire" the cameraman that doesn't get paid like I don't get paid...

  • The reason the bees are draw the comb out disproportionately is because of a reaction to the plastic foundation, not the frame fit. I would suggest crimp wire wax foundation ALWAYS. Wood and wax baby.

  • @NCjoshleaSU Have had that same thing happen with some wax foundation also???

  • You all are giving me the confidence to start my own hives. My goal is to have them this spring. We all must learn how to be self sufficient. Keep up the great work. Michael

  • The "odd stuff" on the comb they're drawing is, in my commercial beekeeper opinion, typical of plastic foundation, black or white. Your positive expreience with the black Brushy Mtn foundation in the first hive is unusual in my experience. PerhapsBrushy Mtn just does a better job coating it than the suppliers I've used.

  • really nice video, thanks very much for an encouraging introduction!

  • Good job on the videos. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. You have encouraged me to start beekeeping this spring. Do you have a problem with ants? If so, how do you keep them from the hive? I don't have the fire ants on my property but I have the small black ants. They call them sugar ants here in Alabama.

  • i love all the information im new to beekeeping and im looking for a starter kit is their such a thing? thanks for all the information
