Drilling wont help since the US has only 2% of the worlds proven reserves and consumes 25% of the world's oil. Unfortunately since global oil production is now in decline as of 2010 the drill baby drill mantra is going to return as fields that were once not economically viable to exploit suddenly have profit potential

@miket1m I have done the research,. You're deriving your information from a chain e-mail of dubious veracity. It depends on who you trust: I put more trust in my father-in-law, who's a Republican, BTW, and the CIA world factbook, more than one AP article from 2006 that's been included in a chain e-mail that has been thoroughly debunked. If there really was that much oil in the Bakken formation, you can bet ExxonMobil would be on it like white on rice.

Environuts are trying to censor this information. You better do a little more investigation into this. US Geological Service issued a report in April 2008, The Associated Press did an article on the largest oilk discovery in the world/ Thge hoax is people trying to censor this information. This is fact. The question should be, why are they trying to censor it?

The data is from the CIA World Factbook, which is more reliable than chain e-mails, unless you think the CIA has also somehow been infiltrated by people who hate America, in which case I think you inhabit some sort of alternate reality and are not likely to be persuaded by facts, so much as what you'd like to believe.

@miket1m My father-in-law has worked as an engineer in the oil industry for 40 years, and when I told him about this claim, he laughed at you. If you think that there are 500 billion barrels of oil in the Bakken formation, you've been reading too many chain e-mails. Currently, the oilfields there yield about 500k bbl daily. There may be another 800 million bbl in oil shale, which he tells me they are working on. More to the point, there's no such thing as "our" oil. The market is international.
