Are the days of desktop computers numbered? Some would argue that laptops are becoming so cheap and powerful that there really isn't any need for a dedicated desktop tower any longer.

Do you think the days of the desktop tower are numbered?

  • There is no laptop out there that can equal the specs on my gaming rig...

  • To get the same power as a desktop in a laptop computer you have to spend so much more that when it comes to bang for the buck, desktops win every time! Sure, nobody likes to be chained to a desktop, but which can you buy for less... a gaming desktop, or laptop?

  • @ibanez0830 True, but this is about the average Joe looking for a computer. Let's face it, most people only use a computer for FB, email, and video. Why not go the next step, forget the laptop and go for the future (which is already upon us) a "touchpad". YEAH of course not for everyone, but sure is for 90% of the regular users.

  • I don't think desktops are going to go by the wayside for what I do...

  • The last computer I bought was never... I'm a custom rig person... so the last component I bought for my computer is a cooler master CPU cooler...

  • I say in the next decade or so... but right now, I've not seen many if any mobile solutions that are as good as what one can get in a desktop...

  • He said the desktop is 'going away'; not gone. And I agree with him. Yes, TODAY it is still a better bang for your buck to build a desktop gaming machine than to buy a laptop.....but this isn't 1995, and there are more console gamers out there than PC gamers. I think PC gaming is going away just as desktops eventually will. Infact you're seeing gaming consoles doing allot of the work that PC's used to do: Netflix, Facebook, Youtube...........and obvioulsy surfing the web. Face it guys he's right

  • Totally disagree, I'm a Web Designer, and no way a entry level laptop can replace a desktop for me.. Fact is Laptops with IPS 1080P displays are extremely pricey.. And I can't get by with anything lower.. Also for Gaming actual Desktop's are still the way to go.. And what's more is Desktops last longer, most of the Notebooks we've owned have died within 2 years due to GPU overheating..

People who aren't power users can probably get by but not Pro or Gamers..

  • try to render videos on a laptop... nuff´ said

  • so you are saying i should sell my mac pro and get a macbook pro or air then?

  • all though the laptop can be portible and light whight people i think still like the desktops stability and the size of the monitors also having much more GB storage
