There are detractors from Sargent. Yes he could be glib but this recording shows him to be the highly trained musician he was. those who believe otherwise are usually untrained themselves and know little. The Proms has missed him since 1967 but let us remember the FANTASTIC conducting of Andrew Davis in the 1990's who also performed this same overture at the Last Night in 1992. He knew his Sargent....................
