I recently received my new parts from ATI after my guide rod snapped and my recoil spring bent. The new parts are of a slightly different design.

  • I looked at my guide rod and it is a solid rod with no "fluting". I wonder if this is old style or new? My rubber shock buffer is all ate up. I guess I need to contact GSG and get a new one.

  • @nictaylor00 Yes you have the first generation rod. So far I have not heard of any of these breaking or causing issues, lucky you. I regret to report that I have snapped the second guide rod that ATI sent me. I will have a vid up soon to show the broken part and share my solution (not wasting more time with ATI). Also the rubber buffer that is getting chewed up was replaced in later models, such as mine, with a plastic one and a small metal washer that sit on top to keep it from being chewed up.

  • Just got my new guide rod too. It has the beefed-up end. Their service was fast and friendly. I do wish i knew if a real 1911 (Colt, Kimber, etc) guide rod would fit in the GSG. I have a new Colt Rail Gun, but that guide rod set-up is different from a classic 1911. Has anyone tied swamping with a Colt or other high-end guide rod?

  • The guide rod in my GSG snapped at the exact same place last week. Of course I'm calling for a new rod, but I understand that many of the GSG 1911 parts match real (not .22) 1911 parts. Has anyone tried using a Colt, Springfield or other "big boy" guide rod? That would be indestructible in the GSG.

  • Glad to hear yours is running smoother. I wonder if replacing that recoil spring like you mentioned will fix others with the similar problem of running cheap ammo.
