Michael Beschloss while analyzing some past Presidential inaugural speeches claims that the Iranian hostages just magically got released as Reagan was sworn in without bothering to mention that he went behind the back of the Carter administration and negotiated the delay of that release to benefit his Presidential campaign.

Yes, Jimmy Carter did all the hard work negotiating the hostages' release, which took place the morning of Reagan's inauguration, and for which Reagan was given credit. Republicans such as Federal Reserve attorneys, Bank of England, and Al Haig (Reagan's SOS) deliberately delayed the money transfer and release to make Carter look bad. Carter's presidency was one of the few administrations where '...not a drop of the blood of a single citizen was shed by the sword of war.'
