Yeah I guess to people under say age 25 he's just some jackass who makes failed big-budget comedies and completely safe kids' movies. To people of a certain age, who were kids in the 80s, Eddie Murphy is the archetypal "dirty comic" (displaced end-of-decade by Andrew Dice Clay who killed stand-up comedy for most of the rest of the decade).
