Poor pruning technique regarding Crape Myrtles

The Crape Myrtles, Lagerstromeia indica, have been severely pruned to the point of doing damage to the structure as well as the esthetics of the tree long term. The improper pruning is consistantly performed by in experienced and uneducated landscape maintenance contractors. The trees usually die after several severe prunings. The tree selection form was designed along streets to provide a small tree that would still be able to view the store fron by looking under the canopy. What happens is the trees continue the form of a large bush and the trees basically are an eye sore of the streetscape. The plantings are required bufferyard trees but the result is an unatractive planting.

@tobylou8 It's landscapers like you that tarnish the image of proffesional landscaping companies. Being a professional means having the knowlede and skills to do explain to clients the best ways to care for their property. A surgeon does'nt take advice from a landscaper on how transplant a heart. Why would a landscaper take the advice of a sergeon on the way a plant should be taken care of? Your comment just means that you have know idea what you do for a living but being told what to do. I prune crepe myrtles both ways. "Right" and "wrong". It all depends on what the client wants. Since they are paying, I'll do what they want, even if they want it "wrong". It's their money, and it's only a tree!
