On my rach this spring we branded 952 calves in 2h 26min from the time the first calf hit the ground until the last one was let up.
I still ear tag all my calves so I can always mate it with its mother. they also dock you for bulls
We stopped branding in 1976. We use ear tags and freeze branding, which are less painful, less dangerous, cause fewer infections, and best of all: result in quicker weight gain and less 'shrinkage' of calves. Also, we stopped routinely castrating. Bulls have a MUCH higher feed to meat ratio, make leaner beef and can be slaughtered at 12 to 14 months of age.
Less pain & stress = better growth and quicker turnaround

I have been to many brandings in my life and honestly its harder than it looks. i will always eat beef whether people tell me its bad or what ever. beef has been given to us by the Great Lord up above so we may live and prosper while we're here on this earth. if people (a.k.a. ranchers/farmers) didn't brand then they wouldn't beable to sell their beef and therefore they would lose everything. beef is a way of life and thats all there is to say about that
Continue to eat Beef/Dairy products and we are the enablers of these deeds. Male Dairy Calves are castrated/raised in crates as Veal. While admirable people expose Rodeo Cruelty and other cruelty, it's only a glimpse. Change Personal Life Choices with Education/Facts and stop enabling cruelty to ALL Non-Humans, Educate others. Eat meat?Please GO ORGANIC, still suffering/abuse on some level, though little more "dignity before their death". Thank All who have "opened my eyes" .
