Faces are checked against `a mug book` containing thousands of pictures of foreign intelligence officers..You will be stationed in a house overlooking the embassy..Peter Wright in his book `Spycatcher` mentions ordinary chaps doing a job which is most of the time very dull...1st of all This is the coat of arms of The Security Service MI5...now we hear on the news of an increase in Espionage from the Russians hence John le Carre`s fiction novel `The Looking Glass War`...Then a photograph of the Russian Embassy that is your job to watch people going in or out then you check the book of photographs of known personnel who work there...A pair of binoculars a Camera with telephoto lens [ not this one may I add ] and a log book..Your mobile phone ect..The large photograph is of a RAF Tornado jet fighter intercepter shadowing a Russian `Bear` reconnaissance aircraft near the coasts of the UK..All may sound very glamorous..But this is what W Somerset Maugham had to say and he was a Intelligence Officer..`The work of an agent in the Intelligence Department is on the whole extremely monotonous. A lot of it is uncommonly useless..But do not let this put you off...If this is what you want to do for Queen and country..Do it !! Just a word of warning do not get hanging around these Embassies unless you are on official business you may get nicked by our police then you may have to give an account of just why you are there !!
