Well they almost collapsed under the high cost model, not service model. It doesn't cost an extra cent to look after your customers, it's like any other business. If you give your client good service, they'll have no need to go elsewhere.
I don't think AL would be at all wise to take this direction. The reason why you can't get Singapore levels of service is that the cost base in Europe is just too high to support it and you don't have the same balance of short and long haul. AL nearly collapsed under a high service model - at least it was brave enough to change to a different model and not go the way of Alitalia or Sabena... and the increased profits have helped it survive.
No I don't work for JetBlue. The aircraft are a lot better than that offered by the likes of Southwest but they've had a lot of CS problems on the ground. I'm not sure what Neelemans replacement will do to improve this. I know Lufthansa will be doing a full codeshare with them if it hasn't already started
You work for JetBlue? A few friends of mine flew B6 and loved it, the IFE, seats and staff were great apparently. Either way it provides Irish customers links to over 25 new destinations and that's the important thing. Aer Lingus also signed an agreement with United Airlines for a full code share.
Aer Lingus is already carrying a number of passengers Europe to the US via Dublin, that's why they have made it easier to book those routings online. There are often Spainish, British, German and Polish on AL flights to the US who have connected in Dublin. They fly AL because of the low fares, pre clearance in Dublin and the service which is about to get a lot better.
For the likes of AL to flourish and prosper they need to offer service above anything currently available from any of the European airlines. No airline in Europe has matched the likes of Singapore for service and that's what AL should be trying to emulate. If they did I'm betting people will fly from their home airports in Europe to Dublin just to fly long haul with them.
By next summer 80% of the fleet will have the new product. New routes to China and Canada are being considered and the Belfast operation will be expanded, possibly with long-haul routes. All my recent flights have been great, that Irish charm is still there, fares are very reasonable and they have a touch of class other low fare airlines lack.

Here JetBlue are just a single step above Southwest and they're nothing to write home about, believe me. I'm based in Chicago by the way.
