@DuxvsPaco What is the Dog Shit, Poker? It is still a game for the smarter segment.....a lot of chest players love to play poker
-
I don't see the connection between the tittle "poker genius" and Tom Dwan xD
-
@zootalk you're right, lazy persons can't be smart... Idiot...

Chess is for the intellectuals, Poker is for the lazy.

I'm not debating that there is or isn't a more creative aspect to chess. There's so many combinations, and creativity and surprise are required. I'm just saying you can compare certain aspects. Noticing little movements in players is not psychology. It's observation!! (patterns as such e.g betting amounts to name one), and to recognise one from a Pro is a serious skill which develops from instinct and repetition. that side is similar to chess

@markmalone83 probability covers calculating odds... body language and betting patterns come under psychology.
obviously there are patterns, and masters can play pretty much by instinct and experience alone if they want, which is what blitz chess mostly is. but they won't win standard games against other masters by doing so, you need to add calculation and creativity if you want to win high level games.
they still aren't comparable.

Listen you idiots!!! the same players don't continuously collect at the highest level tables by relying on luck!! let's clear that right up. it's an element but a small one
Both games require a huge amount of skill to play at highest level. Some of the same skills are required. There are names for opening moves in chess for god's sake. Pattern recognition is a huge element in both games, and both players require the skills to recognise these patterns and react correctly. to be successful.

@dm9910 Calculating odds in a pot. Moves, twitches, betting patterns your opponent makes?? None of these qualify no?.. Chess for most is habit even at grand master level.. Many Many games end with a draw.. the same moves are embedded into their brains through repetition from years of playing at high level from such a young age. If you play enough times you will begin to notice patterns, and respond in kind to defend or attack, and lot of it involves timing. It's possible to compare a little

I like chess better but poker is fun to, though, I don't think I'll ever gamble.
The skill cap for Chess is far higher than Poker. You don' get lucky in Chess. You just don't (unless your opponent does something completely stupid which could also happen in poker). Poker, though mostly skill, does have the luck factor involved. In chess, you can outplay your opponent the entire game and make all of the right moves and you WILL win (assuming you don't fuck it up). In poker you can make all of the right moves and lose because lady luck decided to piss on you on the river card.

comparing a poker player to a chess player is like comparing an apple to a piece of dog shit.
