i'm not really good at animation, but i think he needs some lateral movements, and abdomen/chest torsions

he will have, this was just using the standard 3ds max footsteps tool. its not that versitile without manual keyframing.

A good walk cycle is included with Character Studio. The default footstep walk is very rigid, but is good for things like turns and uneven terrain.
