  • Hi Scott. This is amazing. Are these flies functional or just for aesthetics? They just look way too beautiful to even think to fish them. Thanks for sharing.

  • @paleozon

Thanks for the kind words. I've never fished one of the butterflies, but I suppose you could. Since I've been tying them I've heard several stories from folks who have seen fish chasing a butterfly or a moth. I will likely try to fish one at some point, although casting it is going to be quite an issue, I'm sure. Again, thanks for the compliments, I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Hi Alan

Thanks for the compliments! I tie the butterflies on a size 6 streamer but you could go smaller. The only potential problem might be that the weave demonstrated could create a body that's too bulky and as such out of proportion with the wings. I've tried other materials for the body but I feel ultra chenille works best (it blends together better than other things I've tried.) If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Good luck tying, and thanks again for the kind words!

  • Hi David -

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you like the butterfly. I'm considering making a video that illustrates how to tie a butterfly from start to finish, but it takes about an hour to tie one, so a DVD format might work better for that. I have a few other video projects I'm working on at the moment, maybe I'll tackle the butterfly once they're done. Again, thanks for the kind words. Keep in touch.
