Ok this is not a Chinese Mandarin song. It's a French folk song, I think. Sung by American French Joe Dassin in the early 70s. He died when he was only 41, a pity.

Anyway, I love this song. I can listen to it anytime and anywhere.

I will be away for awhile. Spending 6 weeks in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Peru.

  • Sorry mate!.

This is an old Irish song, call Carrickfergus

Wrote in the 19th century in Gaelic, English words where add latter.

I wish I was in Carrickfergus, only for night in Ballygran.

    Merci!

  • @chimangos

Sorry but I'm from Quebec and I can tell that it's far from an old irish song! Joe Dassin was a very popular singer when my mom was young.

  • très belle chanson,il nous manque

  • @chimangos merci for saying that...i think that is why i love it...I probably had a past life there or something...

  • superbe comme toi cette chanson joe

  • Carrickfergus is the song known as "The Water is Wide," I think--it's also beautiful, simple, and very sad so I can see how it might be thought of in the same vein as this one.

I once came upon a tiny village, as I was walking up over a hill in Burgundy. Seeing the small stone buildings with tiny plumes of smoke coming from their chimneys made me think of this song.

  • weird i know it as the song from joe dassin. Maybe he made one that is similar?
