Author/teacher Thomas Newkirk reads a paper he wrote to describe the influence of Donald Murray had on the teaching of writing. Murray, who was both a valued colleague and dear friend, died last December at the age of 84. This speech was delivered at the National council of Teachers of English in New York City, 2007.
