  • Definitely not a 10 second pass. Maybe ran in the 12's on that run. I worked with their crew chief back in the late 70's, although cool they weren't very successful.

  • I love her!

  • @welder541 Didin't necessarily have to be a 10 flat run, coulda been in the 10.90's. The car was classified as Super Stock/F, I don't know what the ET's were for that period.

  • A 10 sec pass equates to roughly almost 140mph through the traps. I don't think this car was quite that capable maybe a 12 sec car at best with a good super tune and the right driver. And Dickie had LOT"S of time behind the wheel. Maybe the first time behind the wheel of this particular car was what the announcer meant to say. And i don't think he had the time's right either. But i think he powershifted that tranny like a PRO:):):) Go Dickie!!!

  • I think he could have sure first time in super stocker but he had racing experiance so he could drive and you can tell in the video I think it was possible but you were right about the tires back then which does leave the question did he run a 10 sec pass??

  • Sorry, but it's hard to believe that he turned in a 10 sec. run as much as that car bogged off the line. No disrespect to the Smothers Bros....as they were the real deal in racing and behind the wheel. I cannot imagine anybody turning a 10 sec. pass their first time out in a super stocker. And let's not forget....this was 1968, and the tires and slicks were very sub-par compared to now.

  • Those were the days! Makes me want to get my olds 442 and go to the track! Dick did a good job shifting and driving!!

  • Hot Damn Dickie, Power shift that sucker :):):):) a man of my own heart. I love it. Could'nt been tom with the camera taken the pictures, otherwise it would have been goofed up, hahahahaha:):):):):)

  • Terrific comment. LOL

  • That Smothers Brother Olds is a W-31 350 Cutlass.
