One of the best I have seen! The owner has replaced the original 260 c.i. engine with a 289, and the engine compartment is perfect. I think the original fitting of the V8 and upgrade of the chassis of the Alpine was the work of Carroll Shelby. It was a masterful job....but the Ford engine in a car sold by Chrysler dealers was a bit much, evidently.
Rumour has it that a factory mod to the bulkhead to get the V8 in, was the the use of a substantial lump hammer! These cars have a 'cool' factor now that puts them ahead of same-period MGs in my book. I think Chrysler had money in Rootes since the early 60s, Rootes got into financial trouble over the Hillman Imp and industrial strikes. By 1967 Chrysler owned Rootes outright, but it wasn't until about 1977 the Chrysler brand got put on cars here. By the early 80s it was all over, sold to Peugeot

@rx6180 Hey, Mick! Nothing like "precision engineering"! I often mention getting out the "fine adjustment tool", the 20 lb. sledge! These little cars really had some guts with that Ford V8...major embarrassment for Chrysler, couldn't get a Chrysler engine in them! One problem I heard of..a tendency to overheat because of radiator design, but easily solved with auxilliary electric fan. Thanks! :) Jack

Every thing looks perfect on this well detailed blue beauty. Mopar bought Rootes and Sunbeam was part of Rootes. I liked the style of Sunbeam Alpine and the Windsor V8 sure put some growl in this nicely styled sports car.

@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I think this was the real buy in British sports cars...nice styling and interior appointments, and of course, that great engine! Thanks! :) Jack
