  • This is very informative thank you. I have one question. Would it be beneficial to this science, to have a thin even layer of cloud cover that would reflect radio frequencies?

  • @unnim

Thanks for your comment! Ionospheric layers are far above the height of meteorite trails as well as jets. Usually, you receive a reflection ONLY by the jet of the meteorite trail. You have to have some experience, to receive an echo not directly, but this reflection by an ionospheric layer. This will be the case, where the transmitter is more than about 3500 kilometers away from your receiver. In this case, the echo additionally carries the doppler of the ionosphere. 73 Nils, DK8OK

  • Very, very well done. I do remember that this Doppler method was used to detect new (unadvertized) satellites many years ago. It is also possible to aproximately determine many things about the altitude, period and other items about a satellite reflecting radio signals in the same manner as your aircraft and meteorite reflection/echo monitoring.

Thank you so much for making the time to post this video.

  • Thanks, Ray, for your nice words! To be quite honest, I tried to catch also spacecrafts by this method, but didn't succedd until now ... 73 Nils, DK8OK
