The Stench of Truth 225 Over two years of a majority has revealed that the Democrats are the same as the Republicans in the pockets of the financial institutions, banks, and insurance providers. Without AT LEAST a public option there is no reform. Mandating coverage is just a bailout for the insurance industry. We should be taking it to the streets, but have to expend all of our options first to get as many people on board. My letters:
Senator's letter:
Dear Senator Casey:

It is with great sadness that I see that the Democrats, even though they enjoy a supermajority in the Senate, cannot even pass an amendment that would allow for a public option plan for their healthcare reform legislation.
You realize, of course, that this will only serve to solidify in the minds of voters that the Democrats cannot actually do anything that is beneficial for the people of this country. There has been a majority of Democrats in both houses of Congress for 2 years and absolutely nothing has been passed that could be said to be beneficial for people and families.
In the healthcare debate the only thing that seems to be headed for passage is mandatory coverage under a private insurance scheme, which includes fines for those who do not comply. There is no public option let alone ANY pressure put forward for SINGLE PAYER.
I am an advocate for SINGLE PAYER and want to know why YOU have not spoken on this issue and demanded that SINGLE PAYER FOR ALL be included in discussions about healthcare reform. That should be the first step in any real healthcare reform. As it stands now the reform legislation being considered amounts to a bailout for the private insurance industry on the backs of the people in this country by mandating coverage and by CUTTING hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars from Medicare and Medicaid. The cuts to Medicare alone amount to RATIONING FOR THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED, and yet this is flippantly passed with barely any debate.
I am urging you most strongly to pass NO legislation until SINGLE PAYER is debated and considered. I am urging you to NOT support cuts to Medicare of any kind and instead to make Medicare more robust and increase doctors payments to ensure that doctors will accept Medicare recipients.
If SINGLE PAYER is not put forward by you and debated I will NOT be voting for you in the next election and will support a candidate that will work for the benefit of people rather than big business and the insurance industry.
If you vote for any healthcare reform legislation that does not at least include a robust PUBLIC/GOVERNMENT RUN healthcare option to serve as real competition for the private insurance industry which has monopolies in most areas of the country, I will NOT vote for you in the next election and will contribute to and promote a candidate that will work for the people in this country.
The Democrats have proven over the last two years that they are incapable of enacting legislation that is aimed at people and families and financial relief for them and instead have proven that they are indistinguishable from Republicans and are completely in the pockets of Wall Street and big business. I hope that you will work to dispel that notion; else you will have a hard battle in your next election.

Sincerely:

  • Well you just got unsubscribed for this lil ditty. Couple points. Your health, phys. well-being, whatever is none of my business, and therefore not my economic liability. Your personal health care is a self responsibility, not that of your fellow Americans. Its not a goddamn Right. A1 and A2 are Rights. Rights Im really fond of. But no where in the CotUS or BoR can you find a right to health care. Stop perpetuating this bullshit. Should I buy you food? Then why should I buy you health care.

  • I'm sorry you've unsubbed me for this. But to each his own. It's not my intention to make people accept my position on anything but to urge them to make their own voices heard on issues important to them. I'll continue to stand up for free speech, guns, and other rights as well.

  • In a wierd way it's probably good that Obama and the Dems got in. That way people can see that they are just as guilty as Bush and the other Republicans and can't blame only them for this mess!

  • Absolutely!

  • way to shit on your fellow man. the truth is, you're paying for it anyway. and you pay for a lot of other much more morally questionable stuff with your tax money. if the so called richest nation on earth can't produce enough of a surplus to take care of its own CITIZENS, it's time to admit all of the wealth and productivity has been siphoned off to the top 1% for about the last 35 years. Ripping people off may be legal, but they aren't going to stand for it much longer.
