  • the only reason for being in bay area for me is to find talented people to hire.

  • @wayneharrel Well, sure, there are talented people in the Bay Area, but remember, you're also competing with more companies for that talent in the Bay Area! They are more expensive, and definitely are used to being fought over. Now, on the other hand, in Detroit, there are PLENTY of talented people and no competition.

  • Thank you! My co-founders and I were literally having this conversation today. Our goal is to keep our HQ here in Metro Atlanta, which as you stated, has a pretty high unemployment rate.

  • @SeaniusCaesar Exactly! The key is that you create a great company with a great work environment. I love San Francisco (I live here) but come on... It's the investors that perpetuate this concept.

  • Totally agree Jay, nice to hear some who is influential to go on record and say it. After all in the era of the internet, the whole point is being able to run a business from anywhere, and if you save money staying where you are, that is just good business sense, not just common sense.

Keep up the good work Jay, - Matt

  • Hey Jay, once again great video and thank you for demystifying this age old rumor. I was having this same argument internally a while ago until I read an article on TechCrunch mentioning Detroit and it's woes, "Motor City Mojo: The Startup Renaissance in Detroit." Clearly shows that there is opportunity ANYWHERE. It's just a matter of making it happen...

  • I so agree with you, Jay. There are talent everywhere, it doesn't really matter where you are. Thanks for emphasising the importance of staying local, too!

  • Yes, screw silicon Valley.. I am also pretty much in a screw the VC's mood as well. Me and a friend are starting a software project. It will have no "home office" as it will run out of our homes. My theory is we can run the whole thing decentralized. Thats why the coud and skype exist. Granted for the next year and a half we will be the only two employees. But, later, I am really not a fan of changing past the idea of good people working from home.
