The GOP is up in arms over the fact that the Democrats want to raise the debt ceiling. They seem to have forgotten that, not only did Bush squander a $500 billion surplus when he came into office, but he increased the debt ceiling by $5 trillion during his administration. On top of that, the Democrats inherited a multi-trillion dollar deficit, so the only way to be able to spend money to keep government working is by raising the debt ceiling. Mike Papantonio appears on "Cavuto" to set the record straight.

  • 2:31 Did Cavuto flip a bird (middle finger) to Papantonio?

  • Yeah what a great contract. ALl the promises were broken

  • Yup, in 2008, military spending was 44% of our national budget! Health care, poverty prevention, education and job creation, AND science funding account for 34%!

All of that was LESS than what we spend on the military, you see where we have room for cuts mr. economist?

  • Hey insightfu, I just kicked the hell out of your little comment there. They started spending like "democrats" in 2001 BECAUSE CLINTON WASN'T THERE TO VETO THEIR ASSES!

Learn your history buddy, learn your government too!

  • And getting their massive military spending increases vetoed to hell by CLINTON! You know how much we spend A YEAR on the military now?

SEVEN HUNDRED BILLION a YEAR! 711 BILLION dollars this year, you know how much the pentagon wanted for the wars? SEVENTY BILLION! That's right, 70 billion with 130 billion in reserve, the rest goes to god knows what, but it's a HUGE waste of money.

Don't hear you bitching about THAT, you know we spend only 62 BILLION on education in that same time frame?

  • lol....Who has the power of this purse in this country? Congress, now focus on 1994 to 2000. Go and learn your history, it was a little thing called contract with america. Yes, after 2001, republicans started spending like democrats.

  • Republicans won the housen and senate in 96. 2001 50 democrats 50 republicans in the senate, 49 dems to 51 republicans in the senate in 2003 also Jeffords switched from republican to independent, ALso you forget that some of the republicans in the senate were more moderate like CHaffee and Jeffords.

  • The modern GOP is un-Lincoln like, it opposes everything Lincoln stood for including protecting and promoting American manufacturing, a national bank system run by government, government spending money on infratructure (internal improvements) like high speed rail etc. being pro-Government of by for the people - like Lincoln, T. Roosevelt etc. The modern GOP is anti-free Government, anti-protection of American manufacturing and its restoration and pro-Free market n trade an anathema to Lincoln.

  • God, I love how Niel does such a good job of allowing all of his guests to speak thier piece so fairly, and jumps in to allow Pap to talk.

Oh wait, that lasted for four syllables, i think, with Pap. maybe 6.

  • THE REPUBLICANS INHERITED A SURPLUS IN 2000? Oh wait, the republicans were running both houses of congress for the last 7 years before 2000.
