If you went through some of the shet these people have been through, you wouldnt be so quick to dismiss their desire to escape the pain. The majority of metal lyrics, especially death/melo death involve pain, isolation, and the brink of insanity, and when no hope can be seen on the horizon, death begins to seem like a welcoming friend.
