I only have one issue with this. The hidden pump in the center of the live rock... It looks like a real you-know-what to clean.

hey, my tank has lots of algae in it. red carpet algae on the sand and glass, also hair algae on the rocks.
do i need to lose the live sand by sucking it up or aquascape it to make the circulation better with added wave makers.
thanks edward

@edward1234u
Hey Edward. Your red algae is more likely to be cyanobacteria. This type of bacteria reproduces very fast under the right conditions. Once there you can kill it with certain products like "SLIME" but the problem is not killing it but making sure it stays off. Most of my accounts including this tank have issues because of the amount of nutrients they introduce to the system via too much food, have poor circulation and poor lighting or TOO much lighting.

The Best thing for you to do is to find out what is causing the problem first. As you can rid of it for it to come back in a matter of days. Again, most likely is a combination of the things mentioned above, too much food, lighting and circulation. Try and reduce lighting cycle a bit, reduce feeding a bit, and change circulation a bit. If this helps a bit so then you know you are in the right track. Killing it is not a problem once you know the cause. Good luck to you.

No need to suck the sand. Unless is on a great area, to help you eliminate some of the bacteria. Be careful as to NOT spread it. Also read up a little on diatom blooms as this are sometimes confused with cyanobacteria.
