This is just a little doodle (and first digital painting and speed painting) I made while learning how to use my new small Wacom Intuos4, which already has a scratch on the bottom left of my work area thanks to my carelessness with my white plastic chair that I sit on. . .

Please understand that I'm still trying to figure things out on my own while working; nothing is set in stone just yet.

On another note (if you haven't noticed already), there are two important parts that did not make it into this video, thanks to the random crashing of the screen capturing applications Screenium. Those parts are the introduction of highlights and color into the piece. I'll see how I can fix this for any new pieces I make from now on.

OSX on my really slow MacBook.
Photoshop CS4.
Randomly crashing Gawker.
Wacom Intuos4 (Small), which was scratched after finishing the piece on its bottom left work space by mistake.
Cheap plastic white chair to scratch my week old Wacom Intuos4.
Hands.
Eyes.
Brain.

  • but lets say i have a big computer screen, very big, will it be IMPOSSIBLE to draw using the small size tablet

  • @RedStreak40 Not necessarily; just very inconvenient—the work space would be pretty restricted since they aren't that big, but at the same time, not too small.

  • do you think the size of the tablet matters, is small ok?

  • @RedStreak40 It really comes down to you to decide. You'll find that the bigger the tablet, the better you feel drawing; downside being it's not very portable and sort of heavy. The smaller the tablet, the more you have to adjust while working on a project, and I've found that I lose interest in drawing after a long time working because of it; however, it's very portable and light weight, very low profile. I'd go bigger if I was to only use the tablet at home and have enough space to set it up.

  • @RedStreak40 But I'd go smaller if I have a laptop as well, and would like to take it everywhere I go, and use it whenever I'm presented with an opportunity!

  • awsome. how do u like this tablet?

  • @drumkiddy It's alright, but I also have a crappy computer, so it's the best I can get for now.

  • @Coltranized

thank you for your help but i decided to save up for the medium, i dont travel much anyway, hey, can you check out my new drawing video??? :)

  • how do u color the black and white afterwards? to you paint over the values ? or do you somehow change the colors ?

  • @Coltranized the thing where you lassoed small areaqs and then turned them to pebbles was that gradient? if so what pattern did you use? cuz when i do it on one half of the drawing all the pebbles end up a different color then the other half. can you explain how you did that? and how did you change the painting from all black and white to that cool colour tone? when i use photo filter i never get the same results that i had in mind
