This is the original Late Night with David Letterman Anthem. Had this on VHS from the original broadcast of the 4th anniversary show.

Whow wrote the melody? The chorus tune is actually a good piece of melody writing

My guess is that Paul Shauffer or the shows writers wrote the song.

@MrMiguelE Not so sure about that. They use a version of the old Late Night theme for the Late Show. Maybe they just don't want to use this song? Hopefully they'll play it when Letterman eventually has his last show ever.

@dingothing it was Jeff Martin, who later went on to write a lot of songs for The Simpsons.

Used to have all the lyrics to this typed and laminated, and taped to my desk at work.
