/!\ NOTE FOR THOSE COMING FROM A RAN RAN RU VIDEO /!\
Before posting "this isn't the same music, fgt" go to 1:17, when the actual boss fight starts.
-END-

Stage 2 of Imperishable Night, somewhere around the Midboss with Mystia.
Unlike other stage bosses that appear for a midboss battle, Mystia doesn't retreat to recover but instead attacks with full power right away, resulting in a joint midboss and stage boss section, separated by dialog and a change of BMG into "Deaf to all but the Song" (Mystia's theme).

The game is called Touhou 8: Imperishable Night by independent game studio "Team Shanghai Alice"... this "team" is comprised of only ZUN, making the whole game a one-man work from the story to programming and trough music plus all other aspects of the game.
I should probably tell you to buy it if you want to play, but since it's not widely available even in Japan, I'll recommend using a torrent tracker or anything of the like. Google is your friend.

Note on gameplay:
Recorded from a live session, this isn't a replay. Captured using Fraps due to my inability to do this in Linux (Mint) for the moment. Maybe Fraps works there too?
I hadn't touched IN for a long time and have been focusing on EoSD, so this was my first time against Mystia on Hard. Hence 2 bombings and 1 death...

...no wonder I can't beat half of Flandre's spellcards yet...

  • I'm a newbie to Touhou.

How do you stop the time's effect? I mean, whenever you finish a stage, you always get "+ 1 hour" to the clock and when the clock hits 5 AM, you lose.

How can I get it to plus only 30 minutes?

  • You can read about that on the Touhou Wikia, at:

    touhou wikia com/wiki/Imperishable_Night:_Gameplay

    (replace spaces with dots)

It's all about getting enough time orbs by manipulating the Phantom Gauge to either bellow -80% or over 80% (in most cases).

  • There was an accidental space in "Gameplay" in the url above.

  • MAN THAT WAZ NOT MEDICINE!

  • I should practice more. I always use my bombs too late, and I end up using a continue with all of my bombs still left.

I'm trying to do the game without focusing but it's a lot harder. At least there are more points for doing it.

  • when they talk I like focusing depending who's talking XD. Gosh You did it good I can bearly do it on normal XP.

  • I should probably pay more attention to the wikia, because I didn't know that about not killing the spawns- I was actually trying to do the opposite.

Thanks for the tip about strategic boss defeating- I didn't realize the bullets converted into time items.

  • I did, got the normal ending already. Thanks for the help anyway!

  • You probably know this already if you went to the site, but you need to kill the fairies without killing what they summon. Also, if you delay the last hit to the boss until right after they summon stuff, you should easily exceed the time requirement.

  • Holy fuck, i can't even beat Normal mode and you make it look so easy!
