Here's an interesting question that I would like to answer, "can Lasik eye surgery cause blindness? My studies revealed that Laser surgery does not cause blindness. From the research I have done on the Internet, at the extreme, eye  blindness could occur in  patients who  have thin corneas. It is said that only 10% of Americans have thin corneas.  I did see a recent video on Youtube where a Lasik specialist said that there is no way that the actual Laser can cause blindness.  Here's some good news, according to the FDA, there have been no cases of blindness reported due to LASIK surgery. There have been some incidences where poor screening by surgeons led to disastrous  results for patients though.  As I have searched on the Internet, I have yet to find a case where blindness has been reported, directly related to someones Lasik eye surgery. One website I visited put it this way,

Fact: No cases of blindness as a result of LASIK have ever been reported in the United States. LASIK eye complications are rare; the risk of going blind from LASIK is actually comparable to the risk of blindness from glasses or contacts!

I hope that this information proves to be helpful in answering your question about Lasik eye surgery. I was happy to descover that there have been no reported cases of Laser eye surgery causing anyone to go blind. http://www.surgerysurgeons.com

  • "led to disastrous results for patients...." This was a strong statement but not backed up with any supporting information. Please elaborate.

  • how can a blind person get on a computer and tell about it lmao

  • The lazer can't, but the surgery can if you have a sucky doctor who pokes a hole in your eye for example.

  • wow take your statistics somewhere else. There's people suffering with intense dry eye, intense starbursts and halos, no vision at night, etc...I really don't give a damn if it causes complete blindness or not.

Lasik has ruined many more lives than other elective procedures. That's all that should matter.

  • Campus Times 10/24/08 Prof. Lisings wife blinded by botched LASIK; Lawyers and Settlement 9/9/2008: "His most recent win is an eye popping $2.1 M settlement recovered for a 47-year old man rendered legally blind because of a Lasik eye surgery procedure."; (Velou SM et al 2002) "...the [LASIK] outcome was very bad... 1 year after surgery, she had no light perception..."; FDA report filed by a LASIK patient on 5/1/2008: "I had lasik surgery... my left eye is legally blind..."

  • LASIK was the worst decision of my life, it felt like a thousand needles sticking my eyes. They market it like it's painless but it's not. The suction ring felt like it pulled my eyes out of their socket. LASIK promotes permanent conditions with no cure:

    -Dry Eye Syndrome

    -Double Vision

    -Night Halos/Starbursts

    -Depression

    -Loss of Visual Acuity

    -Accelerated Aging of the Eye

    -Lack of Natural Tear Production

-Each Year Post LASIK Vision Gets Progressively Worse

    -Cell Tissue Mutation
